The Volunteer Bureau of Leeds & Grenville is very excited to announce our second year of involvement in the “Change the World: Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge 2010.” As an initiative to promote volunteerism throughout youth in our community and across Ontario, students from local high schools are invited out to Mac Johnson Wildlife Area on Friday, May 7th, 2010 for a fun filled day of volunteering. Students will take a leading role in beautifying Mac Johnson, a local conservation area that, in conjunction with the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority, is dedicated to preserving the environment and its wildlife, as well as provide information and education to people about the natural environment and their role in its protection and improvement.

        Students will get some hands on experience through lifting, potting and planting trees, clearing trails, planting flowers, and much more. Students will also have the opportunity to hear from a local biologist and participate in group projects that focus on the connection of science to everyday life, and how our actions affect our planet. Most of all, it will be a great way to meet new friends while also making a big difference in the community!

            The Volunteer Bureau, along with over 20 other volunteer centres across Ontario will be involved in the Ontario Youth Challenge this year.

        We thank Mac Johnson, Friends of Mac Johnson, the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority, and members of the Upper Canada District School Board for their participation in this event, and we are looking forward to working alongside the youth who are participating in this exciting challenge.
